Facebook Adds Video Option Leave Comment
Yesterday, Facebook announced that users can now leave a video as a comment instead of just photos, text, links, stickers, and emojis. Their goal, of course, is to continue to emphasize video as content. And it is working. Research shows that, of the 1.6 billion users on Facebook, 100 million hours of video are being watched, per day! All these stats are really lucrative for businesses that are trying to invest in Facebook advertising, all they need is to buy old Facebook accounts and get started with their content and promotions.
At this time, the ability to leave a video as a comment is not available on a mobile device. You can watch them, you just can’t record it and post it as a comment on your phone. This is kind of a bummer because research shows that 75% of video views are happening on mobile devices.
Facebook is going to add this feature to mobile with the next update but until then, clicking the photo button in the comment section will allow you to post a saved video from your computer. There is no live option at this time. I’m sure that is in the works too.
So why all the videos? Snapchat has surpassed Instagram in usage, Facebook is catching up to YouTube in terms of video hours watched, and Facebook now has Live Video available. According to Facebook, people are spending more time watching videos than viewing images and written content. And now, people are watching Live video 3 times longer than regular videos.
So, what does this all mean? Research shows that 5 new profiles are being created, on Facebook, every second. If I do my math right, that equates to 432,000 new profiles per day and about 13 million new profiles per month! I’m going to go out on a limb here and venture to say that even though Facebook has a reputation for being a casual, fun place to hang with friends and family, the reality is, our customers are now there too and it makes sense to find them and connect. What better way to do that than with a video comment or live video post?
